"Foreign Aid" given to Israel by the United States for the fiscal year ending in Sept. 30, 1997: $6.72 billion.

Additional amount that U.S. taxpayers borrow and pay interest on in order to guarantee Israel's loans and pay interest on Israel's loans: $3.122 billion.

Amount U.S. private donors to Israel claim annually in tax deductions: $1 billion.

Ultimate cost to U.S. taxpayers of these donor deductions: $280 million to $390 million;

Total cost to U.S. taxpayers of our "special relationship" with Israel during the 1997 fiscal year: More than $10 billion.

Total given to Israel directly by U.S. taxpayers since 1949: $83.205 billion.

Interest costs borne by U.S. taxpayers on Israel's behalf since 1949: $ 49.937 billion.

Total amount given to Israel in direct payments and interest expense by U.S. taxpayers since 1949: $133.132 billion.
